The Empty Air: A Rittenhouse Square Sound Walk Opening Reception

Friday, April 5th 8:00pm at the Philadelphia Art Alliance:

Composer, performer, and sound designer Michael Kiley will be unveiling a sound walk created for Rittenhouse Square. The sound walk is delivered through an original iPhone application that uses GPS to determine what you hear depending on your location within the park.

There will be a live performance of the music featured in the app by The Mural and The Mint.

The Rittenhouse Square Sound Walk from The Mural and The Mint on Vimeo.

Music, environmental sound, headphones and a mobile device give you a new kind of immersive music experience from Philadelphia’s The Mural and the Mint.

How does it work?

Download the app (99 cents) and head to Rittenhouse Square. Open the app, plug in your headphones, put your phone away and start walking through the park in whatever order you choose. Your location will trigger different elements of the music — from melodies inspired by church bells to the rhythms of footsteps and traffic. Step into the center of the park and the entirety of “The Empty Air” will surround you. Available on iTunes starting April 5, 2013
