Ars Nova Workshop Presents: Bradford-Gjerstad Quartet

$15 General Admission

Ars Nova Workshop welcomes the Bradford-Gjerstad Quartet for its first Philadelphia performance. The quartet features Frode Gjerstad, Bobby Bradford, Ingebrigt Haaker Flaten and Frank Rosaly.

Frode Gjerstad was born in Stavanger, Norway and started playing improvised music as a trumpeter in 1968, eventually picking up reed instruments a year later. In the early stage of his career he played mainly with international musicians, as there was no tradition in Norway for free music. Around 1981, Gjerstad began a fruitful collaboration with British drummer John Stevens that led to the forming of the group “Detail,” which in 1986 released the album Detail Plus featuring Bobby Bradford on cornet.
